SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t seen the season finale of Love Is Blind UK season 1, proceed with caution.
Love is abroad.
Though the first season of Love Is Blind UK takes place in London, the romance, messiness, and drama was just as addictive as the Netflix show’s American counterpart.
The highly anticipated wedding episodes dropped on the streaming service on Aug. 21 and were filled with tears, surprises, splits, bliss, and an incredibly impressive English estate.
Viewers got to attend six separate weddings, revealing the altar fate of couples Steven Smith and Sabrina Vittoria, Ollie Sutherland and Demi Santana Brown, Tom Stroud and Maria Benkh, Bobby Johnson and Jasmine, Benaiah Grunewald Brydie and Nicole Stevens, and Freddie Powell and Catherine Richards.
The couples, who hail from all over the UK, fell for one another sight unseen in the pods, leading to blind proposals followed by a few lipstick-covered in-person meetings.
The newly minted reality stars then jetted off the Greece for a romantic getaway with their partners, ready to see if their pod connections could last in the real world.
Fans were shocked when Nicole, who initially accepted Sam Klein's proposal, showed up a day late in Greece with her second choice, Benaiah, noting that she immediately could tell something was off in her connection with Sam.
And while Sam cropped up again at the cast meet up, hell bent on throwing a wrench in Nicole and Benaiah's relationship, the UK villain did not make any unexpected cameos on the wedding day.
But that doesn't mean the couples weren't without their fair share of baggage and obstacles to overcome before their weddings. From disagreements over values, finances, where they would reside and more, the British pairings had lots to work through.
With emotions high and the pressure on, the couples had viewers on the edge of their seats as they made their wedding day decisions. And while we won’t know the present-day fate of the couples until the reunion episode drops Aug. 26, here’s what went down at the weddings.
This pair was up first and despite some reservation from their families, have seemed destined to tie the knot from day one. Unsurprisingly, their wedding day went off without a hitch as they exchanged vows and gushed about starting the next stage of their lives together.
“I promise nothing less than a life of good chapters as we grow old hand in hand,” Steven vowed to his bride as they tied the knot. “You stole my mind, and my heart, and now I give you my hand.”
We had high hopes for this pair who worked through their initial drama in Greece and seemed to be on the right track. But they weren’t on the same page when it came time to swap vows.
Though Ollie was all-in, telling Demi, “I do,” Demi called the wedding off, while leaving the door open to continue their relationship.
“I love you, but I do not,” Demi told Ollie at the altar. “Because I’ve learned to love myself in a whole different light during this journey. And actually, that’s testament to you, Ollie… I know what I want from a husband, and I don’t think we’re quite there, obviously. But it’s not, ‘I do not, I’m going to walk away from you forever.’ It’s ‘I do not, now.’”
Ollie later noted that he didn’t fault Demi for her decision, saying, “I don’t think anyone can really look down on someone for not being 100 percent certain they wanna marry someone they’ve known for weeks.”
Hopefully, these two have stayed together and we’ll get to see their post-show bliss at the reunion.
Though these two had a strong start in the pods, differences over their values led to heartbreak at the altar.
Tom was clearly on the fence as he prepared to head down the aisle, and when it came time to give his answer, he called things off.
“I love you,” Tom told his bride. “I just feel like right now isn't the right time for me. We’ve had some differences in values, and I haven’t had enough time to really understand how those differences would really affect our life day to day.”
No, Sam did not get an invite to this pair’s special day. Though Nicole initially went with her first pick, Sam Klein, in the pods, she immediately recognized her mistake and rekindled her romance with her second choice, Benaiah.
Despite Sam trying to cause further rifts at the cast meetup, the couple were blissfully in love on their wedding day, and happily tied the knot.
“You accept me for who I am, flaws included,” Benaiah told his bride, “which shows me you have an unconditional love.”Nicole added, “From our first hello, I felt like you were my kindred spirit.”
In a surprise to no one—except maybe Catherine—this pair did not get married. Catherine was excited on her big day, despite the couple’s many struggles throughout their brief relationship. When asked if she accepted the fit funeral director as her husband, Catherine happily replied, “I do,” but Freddie clearly wasn’t feeling the same confidence.
“I love you, Cat,” Freddie told his bride. “But the timing might not be right for us. This isn’t a goodbye. It’s not a rejection of the love that we share. Part of me wanted to say yes and embark on this journey with you, but as I look into your eyes, I know I’m faced with the truth we both have to acknowledge. There’s still mountains left for us to climb and lessons for us to learn before fully embracing a lifelong commitment.”
Freddie broke down in sobs after the tense altar moment and Catherine rushed away declaring she felt “numb” and “unwanted.”
Though Freddie expressed interest in continuing their relationship beyond the show, Catherine didn’t seem as open, saying, “I never want to walk down the aisle again. I just feel blank. I do trust, but it’s just going to take a lot for me to bounce back.”
Meddlesome mother-in-law aside, Bobby and Jasmine looked confident on their wedding day. And though there were plenty of tears, the pair gave their heartfelt confirmation at the altar, tying the knot without a dry eye in the place.
“We just have that special kind of love,” Bobby told his tearful bride. “The kind of love that only comes around once in a lifetime.”
